The Science
What Causes IBS?
IBS affects over 10% of adults [1], causing symptoms like bloating, cramping, and irregular bowel movements.
Research shows that a certain class of short-chain carbohydrates called FODMAPs trigger symptoms in most IBS patients [2]
FODMAPs are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and ferment in the colon, causing gas, bloating, and pain.
The FODMAP acronym stands for Fermentable Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides And Polyols.
The Low FODMAP Solution
The low FODMAP diet was developed by researchers at Monash University [3] to systematically identify trigger foods.
It works in three phases: elimination (remove high FODMAP foods),reintroduction (test individual FODMAPs), and personalization (create your custom diet).
This evidence-based approach helps you identify your personal triggers while maintaining a nutritionally balanced diet.
Other apps focus on eliminating all FODMAPs permanently, but this approach has been shown to lead to nutrient deficiencies and imbalances in the gut microbiome [4].
Clinical Evidence
Multiple clinical trials show that a properly implemented low FODMAP diet is the most effective known treatment for IBS [5].
It's now recommended as the first-line treatment for IBS by gastroenterology associations worldwide.
Our goal is to make properly administered low-FODMAP diets accessible and easy to follow for everyone.
Backed by Leading Research
The low FODMAP diet is supported by over 30 randomized controlled trials and is endorsed by gastroenterology societies in Australia, the UK, and North America.
